Chin Implant Candidates

body 10Chin implant cosmetic surgery procedure is designed to augment the chin and improve its balance with other facial features. During the initial consultation, the surgeon will examine the patient’s facial and chin anatomy and listen to their personal cosmetic needs in order to determine their candidacy for chin implant surgery.

The goal of the surgeon will be to help the patient achieve an overall harmonious looking facial structure. Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Trang Vo-Nguyen (Dr. V) provides chin implant surgery to patients in Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and surrounding locations.

Pre-requisites

The candidate seeking chin implant surgery should be in good overall health condition to be able to sustain the surgery and anesthesia. If the candidate is suffering from an untreated facial skin infection or another obvious health condition, they should first get it treated before seeking chin implant procedure.

The surgeon will review the candidate’s medical records, surgical history and examine the quality and type of skin in the chin area to ensure they do not have an underlying condition that could pose risk during the surgery or delay the recovery. The patient should preferably not be suffering from a heart condition or unstable blood pressure.

If in the last six months the patient has taken any medication such as Accutane that affects bone growth and causes keloid scars, they should wait until the surgeon clears them for chin surgery. The patient should ideally have a positive mindset, clear aesthetic goals and realistic expectations to achieve good satisfaction levels from chin surgery.

Candidacy

The candidate would be bothered by one or more of the following facial attributes:

  • Recessed chin
  • Squared or pointed chin
  • Fleshy neck
  • Prominent nose

Both men and women can make equally good candidates for chin implants, but their teeth and jaw should be functioning well. If the chin is mildly weak and the teeth and jaw are functioning properly, the candidate can benefit the most from chin implants and achieve the desired aesthetic look.

The candidate should have a good immune system in order to have minimal risk of infection or other complications after the surgery. If the candidate has a habit of smoking, they should be committed to giving up smoking for a certain period of time prior to the surgery as instructed by the surgeon.

If the candidate is unsure whether chin implants will provide them an appealing look, they may first choose an injectable dermal filler treatment to create a stronger chin line. If the results are successful, the patient may be a particularly good candidate for chin implant surgery in order to achieve a long-term solution.

Some people suffering from birth defects or other facial deformities resulting from injury may also be able to restore their natural look with chin implants. Experienced facial plastic surgeon Dr. V receives patients from Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and other cities in the vicinity and across the area for chin implant surgery.

What is the Cost of Chin Augmentation/Implant Plastic Surgery?

Cost of Chin Plastic Surgery

blonde girlChin plastic surgery is designed to make the size and shape of the chin more proportionate to the rest of the face. During the pre-op consultation, the surgeon will discuss all aspects of chin surgery with the patient, and also explain its estimated costs. The procedure is typically performed as an elective surgery, and the insurance will not cover it.

The first goal of a responsible surgeon will be to educate the patient about costs and other aspects, and help them make an informed choice. Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Trang Vo-Nguyen (Dr. V) provides chin surgery to patients in Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and surrounding locations.

Factors Influencing the Monetary Amount

The sticker price of chin plastic surgery can vary from one practice to another and even from one patient to another at the same practice in some cases. The factors that will impact the overall cost may include:

Location of the Practice

Where the practice is located will make a significant difference to the costs. Practices located in major metropolitan areas and prime urban centers will typically have higher costs because the average living costs are steep in these areas. On the other hand, a practice located in a smaller town or in the interior regions may afford to offer a relatively lower cost for chin plastic surgery.

Surgeon’s Expertise

The surgeon’s fee is an important component of the overall cost of chin surgery. The surgeon will usually charge a fee in sync with their qualifications, experience and certifications. Board certified surgeons typically invest in the best quality standards, advanced techniques, continuing education and latest safety protocols. Patients should ideally choose the best surgeon for their chin procedure, and consider the costs only as secondary priority.

Operating Venue

A procedure such as chin plastic surgery may be performed at a hospital, an ambulatory surgical center, or a private surgical suite. The costs and benefits associated with each of these options will vary. The surgeon will discuss all the options with the patient and make the most appropriate recommendation according to the specific circumstances of the case.

Extent of Surgery

Some patients may need only a limited chin enhancement without involving substantive structural tissue changes or bone resizing. In some other cases, the patient may require a major procedure such as chin implants or bone resizing to increase or decrease the size of the chin in proportion to other facial features.

Chin surgery is often performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty, which will add to the overall costs. Experienced facial plastic surgeon Dr. V receives patients from Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and other cities across the horizon for chin plastic surgery.

Third Party Financing

While insurance will usually not cover an elective procedure such as chin surgery, most patients will be eligible to receive third party financing from various sources. Professional medical care finance firms offer competitive loans specially designed for cosmetic procedures, which are not covered by insurance.

What is Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty)?

Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty)

istock_000019489528_smallMentoplasty, commonly known as chin surgery is an ideal cosmetic surgery option for people who are unhappy with the shape of their chin in relation to the rest of the face. The surgeon may recommend chin augmentation or chin reduction procedure and other techniques depending on the unique facial anatomy in order to make the chin look more proportionate and attractive.

During the pre-op consultation, the surgeon will explain all aspects of mentoplasty to the patient and help them make an appropriate decision. Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Trang Vo-Nguyen (Dr. V) provides chin surgery to patients in Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and surrounding locations.

Chin Augmentation

If the patient’s chin is undermined or recessive, it may cause the neck to appear fleshy and the nose may appear oversized. Chin augmentation surgery can be performed in such a case to add volume to a weak chin and create better facial balance. The procedure typically involves surgical insertion of implants to enhance the chin and bring it in proportion with the overall facial structure.

Chin implants are commonly used for both women and men to improve the shape and size of the chin. Chin implant candidates will usually include people with a recessive chin, pointed or squared chin, and an accentuated nose or fleshy neck. The procedure will also help to improve jaw definition.

In some cases, the surgeon may recommend chin augmentation surgery in conjunction with rhinoplasty to create more harmonious looking outcomes. Lip augmentation and cheek implants are other facial procedures that are often combined with chin augmentation.

In case of a recessive chin, the surgeon will place the chin implants in a way to supplement the existing bone at the front of the jaw. The implant is placed underneath the skin to improve the strength of the chin and increase definition. A balanced, attractive and natural looking face can be achieved with this surgery.

Chin Reduction

Chin reduction surgery may be performed when the chin appears oversized in comparison to other facial features. Reshaping of the bone and other structural tissues in the chin area will be done to create a natural looking contour. The procedure will start with the placement of a discreet incision below the chin or inside the mouth.

The surgeon will detach the bone at the tip of the chin and then reshape it. Excess bone will be removed to improve the chin contour. Thereafter, the tip of the chin will be repositioned and incisions will be closed with sutures. Chin reduction surgery can make a person appear more attractive and youthful. In several cases, chin reduction may be performed together with facelift or nose surgery procedure.

If the patient suffers from a double chin or triple chin appearance, the surgeon may recommend liposuction surgery or cosmetic non-surgical procedures to make the chin appear slimmer. Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. V receives patients from Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and other communities across the landscape for chin surgery.

Drooping Eyelid Ptosis Treatment without Surgery

Drooping Eyelid Ptosis Treatment without Surgery

shutterstock_64257811Drooping eyelid or ptosis condition can cause hooding of the upper lids. While eyelid surgery remains the most effective solution to correct this problem, some patients want to avoid surgery because of the associated risks, time and costs involved. Non-surgical or minimally invasive treatment may be performed in such cases to offer a viable alternative to surgery.

Dr. Trang Vo-Nguyen (Dr. V) is a board certified facial plastic surgeon providing both surgical and non-surgical treatments for drooping eyelid or ptosis condition. Dr. V provides these procedures to patients in Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and surrounding locations.

10-Minute Eye Lift

A unique 10-minute eye lift technique may be used to address a drooping upper eyelid condition in a minimally invasive way. The procedure is quite simple and effective. The redundant part of the underside of the hooded area of the upper lid, which is hidden from view, is first marked and then injected with a small amount of a local anesthetic.

Thereafter, the surgeon will run a heated probe along the marked sites until visible retraction and shrinkage of the hooding is seen, and the underlying upper lid structure becomes adequately visible. Once this is achieved, the resulting thin wound is covered with an ointment to allow for spontaneous healing.

Both upper lids can be treated with this technique, and each will take about five minutes to complete. Therefore, the procedure is popularly called 10-minute eye lift. The patient may choose to rest for a day after the procedure, but most patients typically resume their normal routine immediately.

Mild tenderness, swelling and a small amount of drainage and scabbing along the treatment line are expected to occur. These can simply be treated by cleaning and applying a common skin lubricant or an antibiotic ointment. In about a week to 10 days, the wound will heal completely. A thin, linear scar will eventually occur, which will remain hidden beneath the now tightened and less droopy upper lid.

Accomplished facial plastic surgeon Dr. V receives patients from Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and nearby areas for non-surgical eyelid drooping treatments.

Other Treatment Options

Certain prescription eye drops are available, which can serve as a temporary solution to address the condition of ptosis. The effect of the treatment can last for about eight hours, and can be repeated for maintain the look. Botox may be used in some cases to treat the muscle that is causing the eyelids to close. It can allow the counter acting muscles to become more forceful, thereby providing a subtle eye lift.

Multiple types of laser treatments may be used to make the upper lid skin as well as the underlying tissue tighter. Wrinkles around the eyelids and crow’s feet can also be mitigated with gentle and precise laser treatments. Dermal filler injections may be applied in some cases where the brow is low and is causing excess skin on the upper eyelid.
