Excess submental fat can give the appearance of double chin, and make the neck and face appear older and unsightly. Kybella injectable treatment is a revolutionary new technique to reduce stubborn chin fat without surgery.
Board certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. V provides Kybella to patients in Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and surrounding locations.
Safe and Proven
Kybella or ATX-101 from Kythera is a non-surgical treatment for submental fat reduction. It has received the approval from the FDA for cosmetic chin fat reduction, and has become the first and only non-surgical injectable procedure to have the FDA approval for this purpose. The FDA approved Kybella with a unanimous 17-0 vote. Extensive clinical studies have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of Kybella injections.
How does it Work?
The key ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body and works to absorb excess fats. When Kybella medication is directly injected into the targeted excess fat deposits below the chin, it causes the destruction of unwanted fat cells. These disintegrated cells get naturally absorbed by the body. Up to six treatment sessions of Kybella can be received to achieve optimal outcomes with Kybella.
The advantage with this procedure is that the patient will not require re-treatment because the treated fat cells will be permanently eliminated. Dr. V receives patients from Chantilly, Northern Virginia, Loudoun County, Fairfax, Prince William, Fauquier, Arlington, Middleburg, Leesburg, Manassas, Warrenton, and nearby areas for Kybella injections.
Procedure
Kybella injection procedure can take about 15 minutes to perform. The provider will prepare the skin for submental injections in the usual manner. Kybella comes in 2 ml vials, which are stable at room temperature and do not need reconstitution. The initial treatment with Kybella may involve two to three vials on average, which can amount up to 50 metered injections.
Fewer injections may be needed as the treatment sessions progress. Treatments may be scheduled 30 to 60 days apart from each other. Most patients would require two to four treatments, and a maximum of six treatments may be performed.
Targeted Delivery
The key to success in Kybella injectable procedure lies in placing the right volume of drug in the right location and avoiding significant anatomy. The provider will mark the patient at the mandibular border, and place a second marking about 1.5 cm below the first mark.
The gap between the markings is the non-injection area to safeguard the marginal mandibular nerve. Injections must also be avoided in the submandibular and thyroid glands as well as the jowl area. The ideal way to ensure this is by targeted subcutaneous fat in the submental region.
Recovery
Ice packs and compression may used after the procedure to help resolve the initial swelling. Bruising and swelling will be mild to moderate, and will largely resolve in about 48 hours after the procedure. The treatment area may have a component of paresthesia. The area will return to normal appearance in about two to four days.
